Nikon Mirrorless Rumours

Though not much of a rumour when the subject itself leaks it....

About 5 years too late to the mirrorless party, Nikon is signalling that they are entering the market (finally). Actually it's more like a Hail Mary...as in "please don't leave us for [INSERT A MIRRORLESS CAMERA MANUFACTURER HERE], we have something your gonna love.

I myself had a brief relationship with Nikon...I switched over from Canon because the grass looked greener. Go figure. Although the system worked well enough the little things that bugged me about Nikon just made engaging them unsustainable. Add to that, the premium stuff is priced significantly above Canon's L and 1D series gear but for very little to no improvement in image or operations. So in my case the grass was not greener and I switched back to Canon. I exited Canon in Late 2013 for Fujifilm and Olympus. I've now completely left the latter.

Going back to Either Canon or Nikon at this stage in my career kinda feels like returning to a toxic relationship.

Despite the new direction from Canon/Nikon I feel there is just too much recent history that tells me all I need to know about them. I'm still sour about the lackluster rollout of fixes (via firmware) and addition of features nobody wants while barely listening to a single thing that working photographers begged for. Also it appears from the video that the lens mount is new...that means new lenses or adapters for existing ones. I'm not a big fan of that...just ask the Sony guys who recently discovered that adapting "SOME" lenses to the mirrorless system results in image degradation...

That said it will be interesting to see what the most powerful camera company in the world has come up with after 5 years of "sorta" promises. I think it more likely that it will just be another "it's over" moment...like their Nikon 1 system...
